[Short synopsis + Artst bio]
hyuwork.JPGNostalgia (one channel version) Nguyen Nhu Huy
This work would like to investigate the in-between spaces, not only geographical, but also mental created by the endless dislocations of human beings in the globalized world, where all traditional borders defined by culture, identity, or language are now blurring.

Kampung Hakka_Andrew Stiff.jpg KAMPUNG HAKKA (2014 5'30") Andrew Stiff (Malaysia)
In 2013, a local developer started bulldozing a part of Mantin Town, in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. Within minutes there was a huge gathering of local residents, Malay, Chinese and Indian. They were trying to stop the destruction of the heart of Mantin, an area called Kampung Hakka [Hakka Village]. This part of Mantin is over one hundred years old. It is a traditional area built from wood. The area has a very special quality. Whilst run down, and in need of improvement, the pulling down of the kampung would erase a large part of the heart of Mantin. The protests gathered all sections of the community, reflecting the communal nature of Mantin, and they have managed to stop the bulldozers, for now at least. This film captures the spirit of the protest and also the quality of the kampung, that is still lived in; for now.
Andrew Stiff studied painting at the Chelsea School or Art in London, and gained his masters at the University of Liverpool in England where he explored his interest digital media and architecture. Alongside Andrew’s creative practice he is also the Deputy Dean of the School of Media art and Design, at Linton University College in Malaysia. Andrew Stiff’s research and creative practice is concerned with developing a visual language that explores the intricacies implicit in our built environment. The surface of the city is the visible manifestation of our endeavor to formalise, expand and innovate within the spaces that we create. The physical structures for the city are defined by the events that take place in and around them. The surface of this structure acts as a medium between the inhabitants and the city. The experience of the city is a temporal one, and I use moving image to reflect this experience.

Bleached Nightmare - Richard Coronel - screenshot1.png.jpg Bleached Nightmare(2013, 13') Richard Coronel (philippines)
Bleached Nightmare is a post-apocalyptic vision of Manila. An urbanscape of melancholia, it is a city torn by violence. Scenes of a dilapidated, labyrinthine building are knitted with staccato scenes of sadistic ritual. What unfurl next is the offshoot of a decaying society with its moral-have-nots--the brewing revolution.
Richard Coronel studied video and film production at the University of Philippines Film Institute and the Asia Pacific Institute. His sculptural video works were exhibited at Jorge Vargas Museum, University of the Philippines and Light & Space Contemporary. He was a film grant recipient of Active Vista Film Festival.

Mud Game_KOK.jpg MUD GAME (2014 3'40") KOK Siew-Wai (Malaysia)
Kuala Lumpur has a high density of construction sites, especially in the city centre. You cannot drive more than 5km without seeing one of these sites. They have become part of the city landscape. Most of the time, I’m quite annoyed by them. But this day, through my viewfinder, I’ve managed to have a little fun with them.
KOK Siew-Wai is a video artist, improvised vocalist and independent artist-organizer from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She has studied and worked in USA from 1998-2005, and has shown her videos and performed in festivals such as Busan International Video Art Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Kuala Lumpur Contemporary Music Festival and many more. 16x9 Capsule_Wuttin-Chansataboot.jpg 16 X 9 CAPSULE (2014 6'40") Wuttin Chansataboot (Thailand)
“16x9 Capsule” shows fragments of time and incidents taking place at particular locations around Bangkok. Camera observed different situations in various conditions, ranging from trivial moments in an ordinary day to crucial circumstances in political history of Thailand. Metaphorically, each place used as background in the video is defined as a receptacle of temporal matters, exploring a Buddhist concept saying that everything keeps rising, standing and cessation. They eternally and inevitably change. Only memory remains as an evidence of their existence.
Wuttin Chansataboot is a Thai artist working across disciplines from video installation to filmmaking. Cage_LIM.jpg CAGE (2012 9'44"  ) LIM Chee-Yong (Malaysia/Taiwan)
To illustrate the trapped condition, there are some pigs have been caged just by two walls and a gate. Each of us is often trapped in our blind spots, someone is pursuing money, love, and materials in their whole life, but we never really think of what is more important compare to those things. Time flies, when we are old, what would be the outcome if we never change our thought. Maybe I would like those pigs, whose are so eager to be run away from the system of society. Nevertheless, every pent-up emotions need to have a solution.
LIM Chee-Yong graduated from New Era College in 2008, majoring in Drama and Visuals; and from the National Taiwan University of Art in 2013 in the Motion Picture Department. Semerang has the slogan of 'ATLAS' (literally means 'map' but is actually an acronym for the Indonesian words meaning Safe, Orderly, Smooth, Beautiful, and Healthy).
